the lake Como
The lake of Como has a particular shape, a kind of an
overturned y with 3 arms, one towards the north and the others
towards Como and Lecco. It is the third largest of the Italian
lakes about the surface and it is the first deepest with its 410Mt
between Argegno and Nesso. It is fed by several streams ,but the
two main rivers are the “Adda” from Valtellina Valley which
reaching Lecco forms two little lakes (Garlate and Olginate)
before joining the Po river; and the “Mera” which, coming from
Chiavenna Valley after having formed the “Mezzola lake”flows into
Lake Como.
The “Lario” (the historical name of our lake) is surrounded by
mountains. The highest peak is the“Legnone”, above the town of
Colico, with its 2610 Mt.
The Lake of Como is particularly favourable and renowned for
its generally mild and humid climate which assists the lushness of
nature.
All of this is possible due to the Alpine ridge which resists the
winds from the north and also because of the great mass of water
of the lakes which tend to reduce sudden drops in temperature.
North lake
The territory of the Lake of Como is known as "Alto Lario" (north
lake). It is an area full of history and nature and with the
unspoilt beauty of its landscape, the zone retains a precise
identity which distinguishes it from other Como territories.
It is a land of antique traditions which has been able to
exploit to its best the neighbouring Switzerland and Northern
Europe becoming the destination of those who love water and alpine
sports.
The Alto Lario offers occasions for leisure and personal
enrichment for all tastes and needs.
